The Lutheran Hispanic Missionary Institute has begun a new course called "Hispanic Mission Basics". This class is being taught in English by Dr. James Tino. For more information, please contact the Institute Director Rev Richard K Schlak.

A major effort is underway to redesign the LHMI website. The goal is to make the website easier to navigate and manage. We hope you like the new look and feel of the information as it emerges. Please be aware that the site will be under construction for at least a month. The English side of the website is finished. Work on translating the Spanish side is still underway. Thanks

Venezuela & Colombia
June 4, 2011
Rev Richard K Schlak, LHMI Executive Director, is teaching classes, visiting with students, and preaching in churches in Venezuela and Columbia from June 4 to July 8, 2011. Classes will be available online in real time in the United States as well. Richard and his wife Maritza will also celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary in Venezuela where they were married.

October 19, 2011: Prayer Request: Hermanos, en la Iglesia en donde trabajo hay un joven trabajando voluntariamente, se llama Aaron y tiene 18 años. Aaron es hijo adoptivo de una señora un poco mayor, su verdadera madre murio cuando el tenia 4 meses de edad. Tiene lo que parece ser un tipo de trauma; hace unos meses, en casa de un amigo, le dieron droga y se puso tan mal que acabo en el hospital. En dicha ocasion Aaron le explico a su familia que ha sufrido maltratos en la escuela y por parte de varias personas. Aunque Aaron tiene 18 años actua como una criatura de 12. Hermanos levantemonos en oracion por nuestros jovenes; jovenes como Aaron abundan en todas las cuidades, paises y talvez hasta en nuestros hogares u hogares de personas cercanas a nosotros.

October 18, 2011: Prayer Request: Tomorrow I have a meeting to discuss Latino ministry in our area as well as the possibility of offering short-term learning opportunities for pastors and lay people in Mexico. Please ask the Lord to guide and bless our conversation to His glory and the salvation of many.
Mañana tengo una reunión para conversar sobre el ministerio entre los latinos de nuestra zona. También hablaremos de la posibilidad de ofrecer oportunidades para el aprendizaje (a corto tiempo) para pastores y laicos en México. October 18, 2011: Prayer Request: I would like to ask for prayer for my family, my kids, and their father, for the Lord's guidance and that He would enable me to understand them and guide them on His way with love and patience, so that they can understand the ministries that God has given me. Lord, I ask you to make me humble in order to keep working in Your wonderful mission. Give me strength and increase my love for You, that my eyes will be upon you always. Grant me your power so that I can understand your plan. I praise You and thank You for choosing me although I don't deserve it. I am amazed at Your unending love. I also pray for the Sunday School teachers in the "Sin Paredes" and "Cristo Rey" churches. For Your glory and honor, Lord. Amen.
Quisiera pedir por mi familia, mis hijos y su padre, por la guía del Señor y para que Él me permita entenderlos mejor y guiarlos en Su camino con amor y paciencia, para que puedan ellos entender el ministerio que me ha dado Dios. October 26, 2011: Prayer Request: En el nombre de nuestro Señor y Salvador, pido a los hermanos y hermanas que guardan a mi amigo Esteban. Es mi compañero de trabajo. Trabajamos en un taller de metales en Austin,Tx.
Esteban pertenece a los Testigos de Jehovah. Hemos estado hablando mucho sobre la palabra de Dios. También jugamos futbol Latino casi todos los dias durante la hora de comer.
Soy portero, y el delantero. Tenemos suficiente confianza ahora despues de 6 meses por medio de los partidos de futbol y con los demás compañeros de trabajo para hablar sobre la palabra de Dios. Mi mayor deseo es que Esteban, puede pronto reconocer a Jesúcristo como su Señor y Dios.
